What you get — the Digital Product Passport explained
Once your data passes all checks, TRACE issues a Digital Product Passport. Here is what it contains, what it looks like, and how your buyer uses it.

The Digital Product Passport is the end product of everything TRACE does. It is a single, structured document — generated automatically — that summarises your shipment's compliance status and makes it verifiable by anyone in the world, at any time, without needing to contact you.
Every passport contains:
- A unique passport ID. A reference number that identifies this specific batch — permanently. It cannot be reused or transferred to another shipment.
- Product and origin details. What the product is, where it came from, which farms and cooperative contributed to this batch, and the GPS coordinates of those farms.
- ESG compliance results. A clear record of each EU check — GPS verified ✓, pesticide within limit ✓, cold-chain temperature maintained ✓ — with the actual values recorded, not just a pass/fail.
- An IOTA blockchain reference. A transaction ID linking the passport to its fingerprint on the IOTA public ledger. Anyone — your buyer, EU customs, a regulator — can check this independently to confirm the data has not been altered.
- A QR code. A scannable code that opens the full passport on any smartphone. EU buyers and customs officers can scan it at the point of entry without any special equipment.
- Validity period. The passport is valid for twelve months from the date of issue. It can be archived permanently as proof of compliance for that shipment.
For your EU buyer, the passport removes the need to trust your word. They scan the QR code, see the compliance record, click the IOTA link, and confirm the data is authentic. The whole verification takes under thirty seconds.
For you as an exporter, the passport is evidence. If your shipment is ever questioned at the EU border, the passport — and the blockchain record behind it — is your defence.
And beyond compliance, the passport is a marketing asset. EU buyers in the premium segment — specialty coffee buyers, organic food retailers, high-end supermarkets — increasingly require verified sustainability credentials. A TRACE passport is exactly that, generated automatically with every shipment.
Key takeaway
The Digital Product Passport is a QR-linked, blockchain-verified certificate generated automatically for every compliant shipment. It proves your goods meet EU standards — to any buyer, customs officer, or regulator — without requiring them to trust you.
